Get Out There
Get out there is a community project run by Bradford Access Action and funded through the NHS. Qequality worked in conjunction with BAA to develop this innovative project, which supports people with all types of disabilities, to enjoy local outdoor amenities.
The project also promoted the wider use of existing networks with funding for improvements to accessibility.
Working with Schools
Our approach empowers head teachers and equality staff to promote disability and inclusion, creating an exemplar environment for disabled children to thrive in. We have developed a range approaches to meet limited budgets, including tools to help schools prepare and manage their own Disability Equality Schemes. We also provide design advice, policy development, impact assessment, training and consultation with hard to reach groups.
Doncaster Civic Centre
Working closely with the architect and Local Authority Access Group an impressive scheme has been developed that allows disabled people to use the building in the same way as others. There is no compromise to the architectural ethos, with many of the features that provide access for disabled people considered to be an enhancement to the scheme, achieved by design team collaboration from early in the scheme. We also provided design guidance on the public realm and highway design surrounding the civic building.
Leeds City College
Leeds City College makes it a priority to ensure that it is an inclusive place to study and welcome applications from all students and believe that going to college is about developing your independence. Qequality have helped them make this a reality when it comes to disabled people, working to improve the facilities and services. Additionally, Qequality helped ensure that disabled students have Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) to facilitate their safe escape from the buildings in an emergency.
Publications
Susan Peace has been asked to share her experience in a range of ways from local radio and newspapers through to contributing to some of the most significant guidance documents in the field of disability design. Susan was author of the government guide 'Fire Safety Risk Assessment - Means of Escape for Disabled People' and contributed to the Building Regulations Approved Document B, British Standard 9999 and BB102 'Designing for disabled children and
children with special educational needs'.
Bradford Metropolitan Council Highways
In a great example of collaborative working, Bradford MDC employed Qequality and Bradford Access Action to bring together disabled people to help survey various public realm elements. Qequality then developed a training programme for the Highways Engineers, which was brought to life with the production of a DVD giving the disabled people the opportunity to explain in their own words the challenges they faced during everyday life using the district's highways and footpaths.
